Job Description:

Our client is seeking a Structural Section Head to lead a growing structural/bridge engineering group within a multidisciplinary civil engineering environment. This leader is responsible for technical excellence, business development, financial performance, and the growth and development of engineering staff. The role is fully onsite and requires strong local presence for client engagement and team leadership.

Requirements:

Strategic & Business Leadership

  • Lead proposal development, pursuit strategies, and client presentations.
  • Develop and execute a strategic growth plan in coordination with office and practice leadership.
  • Expand market presence through targeted business development with county and state agencies.
  • Manage section-level financial performance, including budgeting, utilization, and profitability.

Technical Leadership

  • Serve as the senior technical resource for bridge and horizontal structural engineering projects.
  • Provide QA/QC oversight, technical review, and guidance on structural analysis, design, and plan production.
  • Support project managers with complex technical challenges and ensure compliance with applicable standards.

People & Operations Management

  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Determine staffing needs, allocate resources, and manage workload across the section.
  • Hire, onboard, and develop engineering staff; conduct performance reviews and regular 1:1 coaching.
  • Oversee section operations including scheduling, forecasting, and coordination with other disciplines.

Qualifications (Must-Haves)

  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field (ABET-accredited)
  • 10+ years of bridge/horizontal structural engineering experience, including design, analysis, and construction support.
  • Demonstrated project management experience delivering public-sector infrastructure projects.
  • Proven business development experience, including proposal leadership and client relationship management.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with structural analysis/design tools.

Preferred Skills:

  • Multi-state licensure or NCEES record.
  • 3–5+ years of direct supervisory experience leading engineering teams.
  • Experience working with county and state transportation agencies (e.g., DOTs)
  • Familiarity with MicroStation, OpenBridge/OpenRoads, ProjectWise, or similar platforms.
