Job Description:

Our client is seeking a Weld Engineer responsible for developing welding procedures, improving fabrication processes, and supporting production teams in the manufacture of stainless‑steel and alloy-based components. This role combines hands-on welding engineering, fixture and tooling design, inspection oversight, and close collaboration with quality and supply chain teams. It is a fully onsite position within a fast-paced manufacturing environment and requires strong technical ownership, problem-solving ability, and the confidence to work independently.

Requirements:

Welding Engineering & Procedure Development

  • Develop, qualify, and maintain Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ)
  • Establish welding parameters, pre-/post-heat requirements, and acceptance criteria for stainless steel and other alloys.
  • Evaluate new welding technologies, consumables, and processes for potential application in production.

Fixture Design & Fabrication Support

  • Design and create welding fixtures and tooling to support repeatable, high-quality production.
  • Support fabrication teams by troubleshooting weldment issues, distortion control, and fit-up challenges.
  • Participate in hands-on welding, fixturing, and assembly activities as needed.

Inspection, Quality & Compliance

  • Perform and oversee visual weld inspections in accordance with Level II standards.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable welding codes, quality requirements, and ISO 9000-based systems.
  • Coordinate testing, inspection, and qualification activities with internal teams and external partners.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Maintain accurate documentation, inspection records, and procedure files.
  • Work with procurement to qualify welding consumables and outsourced weldment suppliers.
  • Partner with production, engineering, and quality teams to resolve technical issues and improve processes.

Other Duties

  • Perform additional tasks as assigned to meet operational needs.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and R&D efforts related to welding and fabrication.

Qualifications/Must-Haves:

  • Familiarity with ISO 9000 or similar quality systems.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks (3D modeling) and AutoCAD (2D)
  • Knowledge of welding metallurgy, heat input control, and post-weld treatment/pacification.
  • Demonstrated experience developing WPS/PQR/WPQ documentation.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, manufacturing environment.
  • Level II Visual Weld Inspector training/certification (VT Level II or equivalent)
  • 2–4+ years of hands-on experience with stainless steel welding and fabrication.
  • BS in Welding Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related field; or 10+ years of welding engineering experience.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience designing welding fixtures and tooling for production environments.
  • Experience coordinating inspection activities or mentoring welders/technicians.
  • Background in industrial equipment, fabricated metal products, or similar manufacturing sectors.

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasional bending, twisting, climbing, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Regular use of tools, machinery, and repetitive hand/wrist motion.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and use of standard office and shop equipment.
