Job Description:
Our client, a well‑established heavy/highway construction contractor is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to oversee day‑to‑day field operations, project execution, and crew performance across multiple civil infrastructure projects. This leader ensures projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in full compliance with contract requirements and quality standards.
This is a high‑impact role for a seasoned construction operations professional with deep heavy‑highway experience and strong leadership capabilities.

Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership
- Oversee daily operations across multiple heavy/highway projects including concrete paving, site work, drainage, sewer/water, and barrier installation.
- Ensure all work aligns with project specifications, contract documents, and company quality standards.
- Partner closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and field leadership to drive consistent execution.
Project Oversight & Performance
- Support project scheduling, reporting, and progress tracking.
- Monitor project schedules, budgets, productivity, and resource allocation.
- Identify operational risks and implement corrective actions to maintain project performance.
- Conduct detailed reviews of plans, specifications, and contract requirements.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all crews follow OSHA, DOT, and company safety standards.
- Collaborate with the safety team to plan, implement, and enforce project‑specific safety programs.
Team Development & Leadership
- Support workforce planning, crew assignments, and leadership development.
- Build strong relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and industry partners.
- Mentor and train project teams in project management, estimating, and operational best practices.
Communication & Coordination
- Serve as a key liaison between project teams and company leadership.
- Communicate project needs, challenges, and progress clearly and proactively.
- Support strategic planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications/Must Haves:
- Stable work history with long‑term tenure in prior roles.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Proven leadership experience overseeing multiple crews or project teams.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- 15+ years of heavy highway construction experience, including concrete paving, site work, and underground utilities.
- 10+ years of project management experience with field exposure strongly preferred.
- Strong ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Demonstrated ability to manage deadlines, solve problems, and anticipate operational needs.
Work Environment:
- 85% in-office, 15% field-based.
