Job Description:

Our client is seeking an experienced Estimator to support competitive bids and project planning for complex steel structures. This is an onsite, office‑based role responsible for performing detailed takeoffs, preparing complete estimates, and supporting the development of bid documentation. The ideal candidate brings strong structural steel knowledge, construction experience, and the ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and vendor quotes with accuracy.

This position also offers the opportunity to mentor junior estimators and contribute to the continued growth of the estimating team.

Requirements:

Estimating & Takeoffs

  • Identify typical and special detailing requirements.
  • Perform computer‑aided and manual takeoffs for all types of structural steel components.
  • Apply labor standards and production rates to estimate fabrication and erection costs.

Bid Preparation & Documentation

  • Prepare complete, accurate estimates with supporting documentation.
  • Ensure all estimates align with contract documents and project specifications.
  • Develop estimate summaries outlining scope, special requirements, and buy‑out items.

Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination

  • Review vendor and sub‑tier quotes for scope alignment.
  • Evaluate pricing, inclusions/exclusions, and compliance with project requirements.

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Chief Estimator and project teams.
  • Assist in training and developing Estimators‑in‑Training.

Qualifications/Must-Haves:

  • Construction industry experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the structural steel industry in a similar estimating role.
  • Strong understanding of steel fabrication and steel erection means and methods.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience reviewing contract drawings, specifications, and structural steel documentation.
  • Strong computer skills, including Bluebeam, Outlook, and Microsoft Office.
  • BS in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred but not required)
