Job Description:

Our client is seeking a Healthcare Principal to lead and grow its healthcare practice in the Houston market. This role blends mechanical engineering expertise, hospital design leadership, business development, and team management within complex, regulated healthcare environments.

The ideal candidate brings 15+ years of hospital design experience, strong project‑delivery leadership, and the ability to cultivate client relationships while guiding multidisciplinary teams through concept design, construction administration, and systems commissioning.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Lead Mechanical Engineer or Engineer of Record on major healthcare projects.
  • Contribute to business development efforts, including proposals, scopes, and client strategy planning.
  • Manage financial performance, risk controls, and compliance with technical and regulatory requirements.
  • Present complex technical concepts to technical and non‑technical audiences in clear, engaging formats.
  • Mentor and supervise engineering staff, supporting professional development and performance evaluations.
  • Oversee project budgets, schedules, resources, and delivery quality for medium‑ to large‑scale healthcare projects.
  • Promote sustainable design strategies that support improved health outcomes and align with current industry standards.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with healthcare clients to support repeat business and identify new opportunities.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams in the design and execution of healthcare projects, ensuring alignment with client goals, regulatory standards, and contractual obligations.

Qualifications (Must-Haves)

  • Active Texas Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Strong communication, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering.
  • Proven leadership in mechanical design within healthcare environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships and support practice growth.
  • Experience leading project teams as a Project Manager or Project Director on medium‑ to large‑scale projects.
  • Minimum 15 years of professional experience, including hospital design from concept through construction administration and systems commissioning.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience presenting technical concepts to executive‑level healthcare stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with sustainable design frameworks and healthcare‑specific regulatory requirements.
  • Experience supervising engineering staff with formal performance or development responsibilities.
