Job Description:

Our client is seeking an experienced Controller to lead financial operations, oversee full‑cycle accounting, and provide strategic financial insights to ownership. This role manages AR/AP, payroll, inventory accounting, budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, and floor‑plan financing while ensuring accurate, GAAP‑compliant reporting.


This is a hands‑on, onsite position ideal for candidates with dealership or inventory‑intensive business experience who can partner closely with leadership to support operational and financial performance.

Responsibilities:

Financial Leadership & Oversight

  • Monitor margins, cash flow, and key performance metrics used by leadership.
  • Develop and maintain budgets, forecasts, cash‑flow models, and financial analyses.
  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual GAAP‑compliant financial statements.
  • Lead all accounting operations including AR, AP, payroll, inventory, and general ledger.

Inventory & Dealership Operations

  • Ensure accurate costing, pricing, and inventory controls.
  • Oversee floor‑plan financing, interest tracking, and manufacturer reporting.
  • Support sales and service departments with financial reporting and insights.
  • Manage inventory accounting, valuation, reconciliation, and turnover analysis.

Compliance & Internal Controls

  • Maintain strong internal controls and accounting processes.
  • Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, and financial institutions.
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations, financial reporting standards, and audit requirements.

HR & Administrative Support

  • Support payroll, benefits administration, and general HR functions as needed.
  • Assist leadership with people‑related financial processes (compensation, benefits, onboarding)

Strategic Partnership

  • Provide insights on profitability, cost control, and operational efficiency.
  • Partner with ownership to guide financial decision‑making and long‑term planning.
  • Improve financial visibility across departments and streamline reporting processes.

Qualifications (Must-Haves)

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and full‑cycle accounting.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and advanced Excel.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem‑solving skills.
  • 5+ years of accounting/finance experience in a dealership or inventory‑based business.
  • Hands‑on experience with: Inventory Accounting, Floor‑Plan Financing, Manufacturer Reporting, AR/AP, Payroll, General Ledger and Budgeting, Forecasting, and Cash‑Flow Management.

Preferred Skills:

  • CPA (active or inactive)
  • Experience supervising small accounting or bookkeeping teams.
  • Experience in automotive, equipment, RV, powersports, or similar inventory‑driven industries.
