Job Description:

Our client is seeking a Survey Manager to lead survey operations for transportation and municipal infrastructure projects across the region. This senior-level role oversees multiple field crews, ensures technical and regulatory accuracy, manages project delivery, and supports client relationships and proposal development. The position requires an active PLS license, strong DOT/municipal experience, and hands-on leadership of both field and office survey teams.

Requirements:

Survey Operations & Technical Leadership

  • Direct daily operations of multiple survey field crews and office technicians, including scheduling, resource allocation, and workflow coordination.
  • Lead QA/QC for survey deliverables, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Oversee boundary, topographic, control, right‑of‑way, and utility corridor surveys for transportation and municipal clients.
  • Manage survey data processing, geodetic control, coordinate systems, and field‑to‑finish workflows.
  • Review and validate CAD deliverables produced in MicroStation/OpenRoads and AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Project Delivery & Client Coordination

  • Contribute to proposal development and client pursuit strategies.
  • Lead survey components of DOT and municipal infrastructure projects, including roadway, bridge, and utility corridor work.
  • Coordinate with state DOTs, county agencies, and municipal public‑works departments.
  • Support project managers with budgets, schedules, billing, and contract compliance.

People Leadership & Staff Development

  • Hire, onboard, and train new team members.
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate survey staff; conduct performance reviews and regular 1:1 coaching.
  • Establish and enforce safety, quality, and operational standards across all crews.

Qualifications (Must-Haves)

  • High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor's degree in surveying, geomatics, or civil technology preferred.
  • Active Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license (Kentucky preferred or eligible by endorsement)
  • 12+ years of professional surveying experience, including at least 5 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Extensive experience delivering DOT and municipal infrastructure projects.
  • Advanced proficiency with Bentley MicroStation / OpenRoads and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Strong command of federal, state, and local survey regulations, including boundary law and right‑of‑way standards.
  • Proficiency with Trimble survey equipment, controllers, and office processing tools.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with subsurface utility locating/designating (SUE)
  • Familiarity with Carlson Survey or similar field‑to‑finish platforms.
  • Prior experience supporting business development or proposal writing.
  • Experience with LiDAR, aerial mapping, or sUAS operations; FAA Part 107 certification is a plus.
