Job Description:

Our client is seeking a Risk Consulting Specialist to support and maintain Workers' Compensation Qualified Self‑Insurance compliance across multiple U.S. jurisdictions. This role focuses on completing quarterly and annual state reporting requirements, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring strict adherence to regulatory deadlines. The position requires a detail‑oriented compliance professional with extensive experience managing multi‑state filings and navigating state workers' compensation portals.


The ideal candidate has managed end‑to‑end Workers' Compensation self‑insurance reporting across several states, is proficient in state portal submissions, and excels at coordinating with clients, TPAs, and actuarial teams. This individual thrives in a structured, deadline‑driven environment and maintains meticulous documentation to ensure full regulatory compliance.

Contract Duration: 6 months | W2


Location: Remote (Preference for candidates in NY/NJ or EST/CST)


Responsibilities:

  • Program updates — Support clients in adding entities to state programs and updating compliance requirements as needed.
  • Client guidance — Assist clients with certifying filings, signing off on portal submissions, and understanding payment requirements.
  • Deadline compliance — Follow up proactively to ensure timely receipt of all required information and prevent missed state deadlines.
  • State reporting management — Maintain a comprehensive schedule of quarterly and annual reporting deadlines by entity and state.
  • Security review — Review surety bond/security levels, coordinate actuarial support, and provide required documentation to state agencies.
  • Documentation control — Maintain detailed, audit‑ready records of all requests, submissions, payments, actuarial reports, and security documentation.
  • Portal submissions — Enter, validate, and submit data through various state workers' compensation web portals; track submission status and resolve discrepancies.
  • Data collection — Request and obtain payroll, class codes, hours worked, loss data, financial statements, actuarial reports, and other required documentation from clients, TPAs, or payroll/HR teams.

Qualifications (Must-Haves)

  • Strong organizational discipline and attention to detail.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred (or equivalent experience)
  • Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage high‑volume, deadline‑driven regulatory workflows.
  • 10+ years of hands‑on experience performing multi‑state Workers' Compensation self‑insurance filings (annual and quarterly)
  • Background in risk management, HR/payroll, insurance brokerage, TPA operations, consulting, or state insurance/labor departments.
  • Experience with state WC portals, payroll/class code reconciliation, loss data, financial documentation, and surety/security requirements.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with filings in NY, NJ, or other Eastern/Central states.
  • Familiarity with actuarial reporting requirements for self‑insured programs.
  • Prior work in large employer environments, national brokers, TPAs, or regulatory agencies.
