Job Description:
Our client is seeking Tax Managers with deep expertise in Form 990 and nonprofit tax compliance to support a diverse portfolio of tax‑exempt entities. This role blends hands‑on compliance, technical research, and project management, ensuring accurate and timely filings across multiple nonprofit structures.
You will collaborate with internal finance teams, legal partners, and external advisors to manage the full lifecycle of Form 990, 990‑T, UBIT analysis, state charitable registrations, and related compliance requirements.

Requirements:
Core Compliance & Reporting
- Oversee UBIT (Unrelated Business Income Tax) analysis and reporting.
- Coordinate with external tax advisors to ensure accurate and timely filings.
- Maintain audit‑ready documentation, workpapers, and compliance support.
- Lead preparation, review, and filing of Form 990, 990‑T, 990‑PF, and all related schedules.
- Manage multi‑state charitable registrations, renewals, and compliance calendars.
Technical Tax Expertise
- Monitor legislative and regulatory changes affecting tax‑exempt entities.
- Conduct technical research on IRS regulations, state requirements, and emerging nonprofit tax issues.
- Interpret complex tax‑exempt rules and advise leadership on compliance risks and opportunities.
Project & Stakeholder Management
- Support tax technology initiatives and process improvements.
- Partner with internal finance, legal, and operational teams to gather data and validate reporting inputs.
- Manage timelines, deliverables, and communication across multiple concurrent projects.
Audit & Risk Management
- Strengthen internal controls and documentation standards.
- Identify and mitigate compliance risks across the tax‑exempt portfolio.
- Support IRS and state examinations, inquiries, and compliance reviews.
Qualifications/Must-Haves:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Advanced Excel skills and comfort working with large datasets.
- Experience managing multiple entities and complex filing calendars.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams.
- 5+ years of hands‑on experience preparing and reviewing Form 990 series returns.
- Strong understanding of UBIT, nonprofit governance, public support tests, PF excise tax rules, and related regulations.
Preferred Skills:
- CPA or Masters in Taxation.
- Prior experience supporting audits or regulatory reviews.
- Experience with large, multi‑entity organizations or outsourced tax environments.
- Familiarity with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft) and tax technology tools.
