Job Description:

Our client is seeking a Surveying Manager that will be responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing surveying operations, including the work of field crews and office technicians. This role requires strong technical surveying expertise, leadership capability, and the ability to manage multiple projects, clients, and deliverables. The ideal candidate is a licensed Tennessee Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) with extensive experience in boundary, topographic, construction, and utility-related surveying, as well as a strong understanding of state and local regulations.

This position includes operational oversight, quality assurance, client management, and business development responsibilities.

Requirements:

  • Prepare and monitor project budgets, schedules, and billing.
  • Promote and enforce safe work practices for all survey personnel.
  • Mentor, coach, and conduct performance management for survey staff.
  • Ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local surveying regulations.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external partners on multidisciplinary projects.
  • Oversee survey plan preparation using Civil 3D, MicroStation/InRoads, or equivalent tools.
  • Lead and manage surveying operations, including multiple field crews and office staff.
  • Assemble field data, perform survey calculations, and prepare legal descriptions, plats, and related deliverables.
  • Provide QA/QC review on all survey work to ensure accuracy, compliance, and quality standards.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients; manage expectations and maintain strong relationships.
  • Support business development efforts, including proposal input and participation in client meetings.

Qualifications (Must-Haves)

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of professional surveying experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Active Tennessee Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license.
  • Strong understanding of Federal, State, and local surveying regulations.
  • Experience preparing survey plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation/InRoads.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with aerial mapping, LiDAR scanning, and sUAS workflows.
  • Knowledge of point-cloud processing tools or photogrammetry software.
  • Prior involvement in business development or client relationship management.
  • Experience with subsurface utility engineering (SUE) designating and locating.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering or infrastructure project teams.
